Senate Republicans have introduced a plan that would send direct cash payments to help those hurt by coronavirus.
Under the plan, individuals making up to $75,000 annually would be eligible for $1,200. Married couples who file their taxes jointly and earn less than $150,000 would receive $2,400. Individuals who earn more than $75,000 would receive $5 less for every $100 they earn; payments to married couples earning more than $150,000 would be lowered proportionally.
Individuals earning more than $99,000 or couples making more than $198,000 would not receive any money.
Taxpayers with little or no income tax liability but at least $2,500 in qualifying income would receive $600 for individuals or $1,200 for couples.
Individuals and couples with children would be eligible for an additional $500 for each child they have.
The payments would be based on 2018 tax returns.
